Costa Rica int’l Campbell nears Real Betis return

SEVILLE, Spain -- Real Betis announced Monday that Costa Rica star Joel Campbell trained with the squad for the first time since being loaned to the La Liga side by Arsenal last month.

The 25-year-old winger, however, was not included on the roster for Wednesday’s encounter at Real Madrid, meaning he’ll miss an opportunity to face international teammate Keylor Navas.

Campbell is recovering from a meniscus injury in his right knee suffered during July’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The development is good news for Costa Rica, which needs only one point from their last pair of final round matches in CONCACAF qualifying next month to seal a place in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
