GUATEMALA CITY – Guatemala head coach Sergio Pardo announced Wednesday an 18-man roster for his team’s international friendly at Japan in Osaka on September 6.
The selection is composed entirely of local players, including seven from defending champion Comunicaciones, which is 4-0-0 in the 2013 Apertura. Cremas midfielder Jose Manuel Contreras, 27, is the squad’s most experienced player with 48 caps.
Guatemala is looking for its first win of the year after compiling a record of four draws and six losses in 10 games. In its last two outings, both friendlies, the Chapines have lost to the United States and Argentina by a combined score of 10-0.
The players are expected to report to camp on September 1 and will travel to Asia two days later.
In their only previous meeting, Japan defeated Guatemala, 2-1, also in a friendly in Osaka.
