    CONCACAF Weekend’s Best (September 11, 2017)

    CONCACAF.com takes a look at the best performances and most interesting stories in the first-ever installment of the CONCACAF Weekend’s Best.

    GUADALAJARA EARNS FIRST 2017 LIGA MX APERTURA WIN

    It took eight games, but defending Liga MX champion Guadalajara (1W-5D-2L, 8 points) picked up its first 2017 Apertura win Saturday, topping host Pachuca, 3-1.  Chivas climbed from last to 15th place thanks to three first-half goals as Michael Perez (15’), Javier Lopez (30’) and Carlos Fierro (35’) got on the scoresheet.

    MOTAGUA-OLIMPIA DRAW IN “CLÁSICO”

    After returning from World Cup Qualifying duty with Honduras, forward Carlo Costly gave visiting Olimpia (2-2-1, 8) a 1-0 lead in the second minute of its first 2017 Honduran Apertura meeting against rival Motagua (2-3-0, 9).  Rubilio Castillo replied for the Ciclon Azul in the 42nd minute of a match that produced no further goals and ended 1-1.  Real España (3-1-1, 10) finished the weekend in first place on the strength of a 4-0 triumph over Marathon.  Christian Altamirano (73‘, 90‘) scored two goals in a winning effort.

    CLUB TIJUANA WINS AGAIN

    After opening the 2017 Liga MX Apertura season winless through four games, Club Tijuana (4-1-3, 13) saw its winning streak be extended to four games in Sunday’s 2-0 victory at Pumas.  Gustavo Bou gave the visitor a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute with his team-best fifth goal of the campaign.

    TORONTO FC MAINTAINS FORM

    United States international Jozy Altidore scored two goals and Toronto FC (17-8-3, 59) increased its lead atop the overall 2017 Major League Soccer standings to nine points after downing the visiting San Jose Earthquakes, 4-0, on Saturday.  The Reds have won five straight matches and are unbeaten in their last 10.

    THREE TOP TT PRO LEAGUE TABLE

    DirecTV W Connection (GD+6), Club Sando (GD+6) and North East Stars (GD+4) sit atop the TT Pro League table on 17 points each.  Of the trio, only North East Stars saw action this past weekend, drawing 1-1 with visiting Central FC on Friday.  Duane Muckette gave the host a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute, before Mickaeel Jem Gordon leveled for the Sharks with a minute left in normal time.
