    NEW YORK RED BULLS SEAL PLAYOFF BERTH, END WINLESS STREAK

    The New York Red Bulls (13W-7D-12L, 46 points) clinched a spot in the Major League Soccer playoffs for the 14th time in the last 15 seasons with a 3-0 win over visiting Vancouver Whitecaps FC (15-6-11, 51) on Saturday.  Danny Royer (33’), Bradley Wright-Phillips (58’) and Felipe Martins (72’) scored for the host.  Wright-Phillips' tally was his 17th of the season, giving him 17 regular-season goals or more in his last four MLS seasons.

    ALIANZA GROWS LEAD

    Unbeaten Alianza (8-4-0, 28) extended its lead atop the 2017 Salvadoran Apertura table to seven points with a 2-0 win over visiting Sonsonate (2-5-5, 11) on Sunday.  Marvin Monterrosa (6’) and Henry Romero (51’) struck for the Albos.  On Saturday, second-place host Isidro Metapan (6-3-3, 21) was held to a 1-1 draw with fourth-place FAS (4-6-2, 18).

    OLIMPIA JUMPS INTO SECOND PLACE

    Olimpia (5-3-2, 18) won for third time in its last four Honduran Apertura outings Saturday, earning a 2-1 win over host Platense (2-1-6, 7).  Luis Lobo’s own-goal in the 44th minute gave the visitor a 1-0 lead, but Platense leveled through Brunet Hay’s nearly saved 63rd-minute penalty kick.  Bryan Moya netted the game-winner in the 90th minute, sneaking a shot just inside the left post from 18-yards out.

    FELIX BRACE LIFTS NORTH EAST STARS

    Substitute Jalani Felix scored two goals (78’, 83’) -- his first brace as a professional – to help the first-place North East Stars (8-3-1, 27) claim a 4-0 win over Defence Force (4-3-5, 15) on Saturday in a TT Pro League game at the Arima Velodrome.  Akeem Garcia (22’) and Yohance Marshall (57’) also struck in the victory.  The Stars, who have won five straight games in all competitions, increased their cushion over second-place DirecTV W Connection (23 points) to four points.
