CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani met with the Grenada Prime Minister, Dr. The Right Honorable Keith Mitchell, and GFA President Cheney Joseph on Monday, January 16, 2017.
During his first official visit to the Grenada Football Association (GFA), CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani reiterated his unwavering commitment to support the advancement of football in the Caribbean and empower youth through sport.
Montagliani met with GFA President Cheney Joseph, Grenada Prime Minister, Dr. The Right Honorable Keith Mitchell, Governor General Her Excellency Dame Cécile La Grenade, and the Minister for Education Honorable Anthony Boatswain. The discussions with local leaders covered a wide range of topics, with football development a leading subject, while addressing aspects like competitions, infrastructure, marketing, and administration.
“Grenada has tremendous potential in sport, and I am pleased to see the GFA progress under the presidency of Mr. Cheney Joseph. Through our ONE CONCACAF Vision, we are providing strategic support to the federation in rebuilding its competitions platform, while encouraging initiatives that promote youth participation and women’s football,” said Montagliani. “I am confident that the federation is on the right track to continue investing in development programs that will transform the game.”
During his trip to the Spice Island, he visited the oldest high schools in the country, Grenada Boys Secondary School and The Anglican High School for girls, where students, who are actively involved in sport, interacted with the President about his role as CONCACAF leader and his passion for football.
GFA President Cheney Joseph stated that Montagliani’s trip presented an opportunity to discuss the pivotal role of government support to develop the sport.
“CONCACAF’s President visit reassured the local government that it is important to build a strong relationship with the federation for the benefit of the game and our country,” said Joseph. “Our aim with this visit is to start the year off on the right foot as we prepare to implement further initiatives to grow football.
