As the only defender among the 10 finalists for the 2017 CONCACAF Male Player of the Year, Hector Moreno is flying the flag for those who don’t always get the same credit that high-scoring forwards and creative midfielders receive.  In 2017, however, the Mexico international was tremendous, helping the Tricolor earn a berth in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.  This year, he appeared in five CONCACAF Hexagonal matches and all five FIFA Confederations Cup encounters, scoring the late equalizer (90’+1) in 2-2 group-stage draw with Portugal.  At the club level, the 29-year-old Moreno netted five goals in 15 Dutch Eredivisie games for PSV Eindhoven, before making a move to Italy’s Roma.
