It’s not always easy for a defender to get enough notice in order to be considered for a Player of the Year award, but if any did in 2017, it was Becky Sauerbrunn.  The 32-year-old scored one goal in 22 games for FC Kansas City during 2017 National Women’s Soccer League season, earning a spot on the Best XI – the only player to appear on the list for five straight years.  Through November 13, she started in each of the United States’ 16 games (0 goals, 1 assist).
