    Colorado Rapids acquire U.S. int’l Jones

    COMMERCE CITY, Colorado -- Colorado Rapids announced Friday the acquisition of United States international midfielder Jermaine Jones from New England Revolution in exchange for financial considerations and the Rapids’ first-round pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.

    The 34-year-old, who joined the Revolution on August 24, 2014, has scored three goals in 33 regular and post-season Major League Soccer games.

    “Jermaine’s record for club and country speaks for itself,” said Paul Bravo, Technical Director and VP of Soccer Operations. “He has the ability, versatility, experience and leadership skills to improve our young side. We are excited to have him join us in Colorado.”

    Jones earned the first of his 58 caps for the U.S. in a 2-2 draw with Poland on October 9, 2010, going on to compete in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup (6 games, 1 goal) and the 2014 FIFA World Cup (4 games, 1 goal). In 2001, he represented Germany in the FIFA U-20 World Cup (4 games, 0 goals).

    His club career has also seen him play for Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany), Bayer Leverkusen (Germany), Schalke 04 (Germany), Blackburn Rovers (England) and Besiktas (Turkey).
