BUENOS AIRES, Argentina – Colombia completed its preparations for this month’s Copa America with a 1-0 win over Costa Rica in an international friendly on Saturday at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona.

The defeat extended Costa Rica’s winless streak to four consecutive games with three of those outings coming against South American opposition.

Radamel Falcao scored the only goal in the 47th minute, giving him sole possession of the top spot on Colombia’s all-time scoring list with 25 goals.  The 29-year-old captain slid at the edge of the six-yard box to redirect Juan Cuadrado’s cross past goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado.

Colombia had several chances to add an insurance goal only for Alvarado to deny Real Madrid star James Rodriguez, while Herediano defender Keyner Brown cleared a shot by Carlos Bacca off the line.

Before Falcao struck, Costa Rica nearly took the lead on 26 minutes, but Saprissa forward Jonathan Moya put a low cross by Alajuelense forward Jonathan McDonald wide.

The Ticos also came close to equalizing in the 82nd minute, when Joel Campbell fired wide from close range.

Next up for Costa Rica is another friendly at Spain on June 11.  It will also face Mexico on June 27 in Orlando, Florida, before opening its CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign against Jamaica on July 8 in Carson, California.
