SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Mexico scored all the goals in the first half to post a 3-0 win over Antigua & Barbuda in the 2017 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship opener for each on Friday at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa.

The result extended the three-time defending champion’s unbeaten streak in the competition to 18 games and left it in first place in Group A on goal difference over Honduras, which beat Canada, 1-0, earlier in the evening.

Ronaldo Cisneros netted twice for Mexico, with a Vashami Allen own-goal accounting for the other tally.

The Mexicans went ahead in the second minute, when Diego Aguilar drove a cross from the left along the top edge of the six-yard box. The ball reached Cisneros, who chipped to himself and then left-footed it into the back of the net from three yards.

In the 15th minute, Cisneros slipped a splendid pass into the box for Eduardo Aguirre. Goalkeeper Christian Corbett raced off his line to block the subsequent shot with his feet, but the ball ricocheted off Allen – who was three yards inside the penalty area – and into the back of the net.

Cisneros struck for his second in the first minute of first-half stoppage time, nodding in from eight-yards out off Uriel Antuna’s right-sided corner kick.

Aguirre had Mexico’s best chance of the second half, but his 54th-minute penalty kick was saved by Corbett.

The game was Antigua & Barbuda’s first in the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship since a 2-1 loss to Trinidad & Tobago on August 24, 1986.
