It was a first career hat-trick for Gordon, who made it 1-0 with a 25th minute penalty kick, before adding two more in the 73rd and 80th minutes. Scholars International’s Courtney Duval netted an own-goal three minutes before halftime. “I feel overwhelmed,” Gordon said after the game. “I have been working hard in training and I know I had a big task ahead of me. I know the team is looking for a leader, so I have to step up and do my job.” Despite the defeat, Scholars International’s Jamaican-born goalkeeper Jermaine Brown turned in an outstanding performance. Gordon has taken over the scoring role left vacant when former teammate Dino Williams was loaned last month to Indy 11 of the North American Soccer League. He was delighted with the result, especially since his side will face fellow 2015-16 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League participant Central FC (Trinidad & Tobago) in the finale on Sunday. “We came out and played our roles, should have scored more goals,” he finished. “But we are thankful for the four we got.” Scholars International returns to action on Friday against Central FC. 2016 CARIBBEAN FOOTBALL UNION CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP First Round GROUP 3 (Montego Bay Sports Complex – Montego Bay, Jamaica) March 9, 2016 Montego Bay United 4, Scholars International 0 Owayne Gordon 25’ pen, 73’, 80’; own-goal, Courtney Duval 42’ Table
