    CD Olímpia, CSD Municipal & Pérez Zeledón gain berths to Central Zone quarterfinals

    CD Olímpia (HON), CSD Municipal (GUA) & Municipal Pérez Zeledón (CRC) all gained berths to quarterfinals of the Central Zone Qualification (Torneo Interclubes de UNCAF 2005) for the 2006 CONCACAF Champions' Cup after defeating Eagles FC (BLZ), Deportivo árabe Unido (PAN) and San Francisco FC (PAN) respectively, in the first round series on Thursday.

    Maynor Figueroa scored the only goal of the match in CD Olímpia's 1:0 second-leg victory over the host Eagles FC at People's Stadium in Belize City, Belize. The result gave CD Olímpia the Series D 4:0 on aggregate.

    In another Torneo Interclubes de UNCAF (Union Centroamericana de Fútbol) First Round Second-leg, two goals by Bill Gonzalez and another from Luis Lara led Municipal Pérez Zeledón to a 3:1 win over visiting San Francisco FC at the Estadio Municipal Pérez Zeledón in San Isidro, Costa Rica. Municipal Pérez Zeledón claimed the Series E with a 3:1 aggregate score.

    The first round second-legs concluded with the host CSD Municipal defeating Deportivo árabe Unido 4:1 at the Estadio Mateo Flores in Ciudad de Guatemala, Guatemala. Juan Carlos Plata had two goals, while Carlos Figueroa and Fredy Garcia each added another for CSD Municipal as they also win the Torneo Interclubes de UNCAF Series H 4:1 on aggregate.

    The UNCAF tournament quarterfinals begin first-leg encounters on 20-22 September, while the second-legs are scheduled for 27-29 September.

    The semifinal first-legs will take place on 18-19 October, with second-legs on 25-26 October. The two finalists, whom qualify directly to the 2006 CONCACAF Champions' Cup, will compete for the Torneo Interclubes de UNCAF 2005 crown with first-leg on 23 November and the return-leg seven days later.

    The two losing semifinalists will play a home-and-away third-place series (22 & 29 November) for the last Central American berth to the 2006 CONCACAF Champions' Cup.

    The CONCACAF Champions' Cup is the longest running international club competition in the region and has crowned the champion club of the Confederation since its inception in 1962.
