    CD Olimpia earns win at Central Zone qualification

    CD Olímpia of Honduras earned a 3:0 victory over visiting Eagles FC of Belize in the first-leg of the Series D Central American Zone Qualification (Torneo Interclubes de UNCAF 2005) for the 2006 CONCACAF Champions' Cup at the Estadio Tiburcio Carillas Andino in Tegucigalpa on Wednesday.

    Everaldo Ferreira, Danilo Tosello and Wilmer Velasquez all scored for CD Olímpia in the win over Eagles FC, with the second-leg scheduled for 4 August at People's Stadium in Belize City.

    In other Torneo Interclubes de UNCAF (Union Centroamericana de Fútbol) 2005 first-legs on Wednesday, Guatemala's Deportivo Suchitepequez tied Diriangen FC of Nicaragua 2:2 in the Series C encounter at the Estadio Carlos Salazar Hijo in Mazatengango, while San Francisco FC of Panama played Municipal Pérez Zeledón of Costa Rica to a scoreless draw in Series E at the Estadio Aqustín Muquita Sanchez in La Chorrera.

    The return-legs will take place at Estadio Cacique Diriangén in Ciudad de Diriamba, Nicaragua and Estadio Municipal Pérez Zeledón in San Isidro, Costa Rica on 3 and 4 August, respectively.

    In total 14 Central American clubs are competing in the first round of the Torneo Interclubes de UNCAF 2005 which is a home-and-away series elimination tournament scheduled for 26-28 July and 2-4 August, respectively. CD Marathón of Honduras earned a bye from the first round into the quarterfinals after the withdrawal of Parmalat FC of Nicaragua.

    The UNCAF tournament quarterfinals begin with first-leg encounters from 20-22 September, while the second-legs are scheduled for 27-29 September.

    The semifinal first-legs will take place on 18-19 October, with second-legs on 25-26 October. The two finalist, whom qualify directly to the 2006 CONCACAF Champions' Cup, will compete for the Torneo Interclubes de UNCAF 2005 crown with first-leg on 23 November and the return-leg seven days later.

    The two losing semifinalist will play a home-and-away third-place series (22 & 29 November) for the last Central American berth to the 2006 CONCACAF Champions' Cup.

    The CONCACAF Champions Cup is the longest running international club competition in the region and has crowned the champion club of the Confederation since its inception in 1962.
