    Caribbean U-20 Recap: June 15, 2016 Matches

    COUVA, Trinidad & Tobago – Caribbean qualifying for the 2017 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship opened Wednesday with three of the four first-round groups seeing action.

    Puerto Rico was the biggest winner of the day, registering a 9-0 triumph over St. Maarten, while two teams -- Jamaica and the Dominican Republic – rallied for victories.

    Group 1 … Javorn Stevens (15’, 24’) scored two goals before 25 minutes elapsed and Antigua & Barbuda held on for a 2-1 win over Cuba … Three players – Javier de la Rosa, Jeimax Osorio and Carmelo Carrillo – scored two goals apiece in Puerto Rico’s 9-0 win over host St. Maarten.

    Group 2 … St. Lucia needed second-goals from Antoine Wilfried (57’) and Nyrone Winter (70’) to upend stubborn Turks & Caicos Islands, 2-0 … Defending champion and host Trinidad & Tobago got the game’s only goal through Jarred Dass (49’) to defeat Guadeloupe.

    Group 4 … Both games ended with a 2-1 scoreline … Zion Lander (24’) gave Dominica a 1-0 lead against Jamaica, but the Reggae Boyz got a pair of second-half goals from Shaman Nicholson (46’, 61’) for the win … The host Dominican Republic fell behind on a goal by St. Kitts & Nevis’ Tahir Hanley three minutes prior to halftime, but recovered to win thanks after the break by Manny Rodriguez (52’) and Arismendy Jimenez (74’).
