Caribbean qualifying Group B continues, Jamaica in top spot

Play continued in Jamaica on Monday in Group B of Caribbean qualifying for the CONCACAF U20 tournament.

This second day of games saw Bermuda defeat Antigua & Barbuda 2:1 thanks to goals by Jahnai Raynor (12') and Tyrell Burgess (24'). Theodore Browne scored the consolation goal for Antigua & Barbuda in the final minutes of the game (91').

In the day's other Group B encounter hosts, Jamaica, came away with a 2:0 victory over St. Lucia thanks to goals from Luton Shelton (21') and Richard West (43').

Having also defeated Antigua & Barbuda by a 12:0 margin in their opening encounter, Jamaica now sits on top of Group B (JAM: 2-0-0, 6 points) with all four teams having just one game left to play.

Despite their loss to Jamaica, St. Lucia are currently in second place (LCA: 1-0-1, 3 points) ahead of third placed Bermuda on the basis of a superior goal difference (BER: 1-0-1, 3 points). Antigua & Barbuda, having been defeated in both games to date, are in fourth place in the group (ATG: 0-0-2, 0 points).

The next and final games in Group B, on 25 August, will see St. Lucia play Antigua & Barbuda while Jamaica take on Bermuda.

The winner of Group B will be paired with Group C winner, Haiti, in a two-legged (home and away) final fixture that will decide one of the two Caribbean teams to advance to the CONCACAF final round of qualification.

Group A winners', Trinidad & Tobago, must wait to discover which team they will meet in the next round as Group D, that will provide their opponents, was postponed due to travel problems caused by Hurricane Charley. Group D consists of host Cuba, Dominican Republic, St Kitts & Nevis and St Martin.
