    Canada & USA progress to 2008 Olympic Games

    Canada and USA progressed to the Women's Olympic Football Tournament Beijing 2008 after defeating Mexico and Costa Rica, respectively, in the semifinals of the 2008 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualification at the Estadio Olímpico Benito Juarez in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua on Wednesday.

    After a scoreless first half, two goals by Natasha Kai and another from Heather O'Reilly in the second half led the USA to a 3:0 win over Costa Rica in the first semifinal.

    The victory advances the Stars & Stripes to their fourth consecutive Women's Olympic Football Tournament, while extending their unbeaten streak to 27 games in CONCACAF Tournament Matches.

    In the other semifinal, Melissa Tancredi scored the game-winner for Canada as they defeated the hosts, Mexico, 1:0. The win gives the Maple Leafs their first-ever qualification to the Women's Tournament at the Olympic Games.

    The CONCACAF Women's Tournament concludes on Saturday (12 April) at the Estadio Olímpico Benito Juarez with Costa Rica taking on Mexico in the third place match, while Canada meet the USA in the final for the Confederation's title.
