OLDHAM, England – Canada international Terry Dunfield has signed a contract that will take him through the end of the current season with Oldham Athletic, the English League One club announced Thursday.
The midfielder had been without a team since being released by Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC on June 13, 2013.
"With the immediate loss of Anton Rodgers to injury, I didn't feel we could take any chances,” said Oldham manager Lee Johnson. “Terry has good pedigree and has impressed us while on trial."
Dunfield spent the first 10 years of his career in England with Manchester City, Bury, Macclesfield Town and Shrewsbury Town, before returning to North America with the Vancouver Whitecaps.
On July 11, 2011, he was dealt to Toronto FC, for which he made 40 regular-season appearances and netted three goals.
In the CONCACAF Champions League, Dunfield has tallied three times, including twice in a 3-0 win at El Salvador’s Aguila on September 25, 2012.
At the international level, the 32-year-old has won 14 caps for Canada and scored one goal. He has played in three World Cup qualifiers and three CONCACAF Gold Cup games.
