    Canada holds developmental women's camp

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia -- A developmental squad of potential Canada women's national team players is taking part in a five-day training camp in Morgantown, West Virginia, USA, May 15-19.

The camp, featuring players aged 17-23, is part of Canada's EXCELeration program that is tasked with bridging the gap from the under-20 level to the senior program.

Jenna Richardson, who scored four goals in five 2012 CONCACAF Under-20 Women's Championship games, heads a group of 18 players who will train for three days, before completing the camp with an inter-squad match.

"This will be the second time this year we hold an EXCELeration camp in conjunction with an identification opportunity for many college-based players aspiring to integrate into the Women's National Team," said Andrew Olivieri, Head Coach for the Canada WNT EXCELeration program. "The group is made-up of some of the most promising players tracking towards the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Canada 2014, as well as a number of players who have played through Canada's youth system in the past.

"These identification opportunities will give our Women's Excel Staff the ability to assess the depth of the WNT player pool and possibly discover a player or two that can come in and make an immediate impact at the senior level."

The next FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup will take place in Canada, August 5-24, 2014. Canada will also host the FIFA Women's World Cup one year later in six Canadian cities.
