SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Canada (1W-0D-2L, 6 points) snapped its six-game losing streak in CONCACAF Under-20 Championship play with a 2-0 win over Antigua & Barbuda (0-0-0, 3) on Thursday at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa.

Both sides were previously eliminated from contention in the 2017 edition after suffering losses in their opening two games and were playing for third place in Group A. Mexico (2-0-0, 6) and Honduras (2-0-0, 6) will square off for first place later in the day.

Kristopher Twardek gave the Canadians a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute, when he fired in with his right foot from eight-yards after Shaan Hundal’s header crashed off the crossbar.

Seven minutes into the second half, Liam Fraser hit the woodwork again for the Canadians, but they eventually netted an insurance goal in the 90th minute.

Tristan Borges played a splendid ball into the middle of the penalty area for a sprinting Hundal, who beat goalkeeper Christian Corbett from 12 yards.

Canada has not played in a FIFA U-20 World Cup since 2007, while Antigua & Barbuda has never competed in the event.
