Beach Soccer's Copa Pilsener starts Thursday

COSTA DEL SOL, El Salvador - Central America will be the focus of the beach soccer world starting on Thursday, when the 2nd edition of the BSWW Copa Pílsener kicks off on the sand of Costa del Sol, El Salvador.

The three-day competition will be contested by four teams: the host nation, Costa Rica, plus two sides that have already qualified for the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup -- current European champion Spain and South American runner-up Paraguay.

Utilizing a league format, the team with the most points after three rounds will be named champion.

For El Salvador and Costa Rica, the BSWW Copa Pilsener provides a timely opportunity to face high-level opposition before the 2013 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship (the confederation's qualifying competition for the 2013 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup), May 8-12, in the Bahamas.

Guatemala won the inaugural Copa Pilsener last year, besting runner-up Uruguay. El Salvador and Costa Rica finished third and fourth, respectively. Salvadoran Agustin Ruiz captured the Most Valuable Player award.
