ALAJUELA, Costa Rica -- Alajuelense traveled Tuesday to Mexico with 22 players for three friendlies ahead of the Costa Rican Invierno and the 2014/15 CONCACAF Champions League (CCL) seasons.
The Manudos are scheduled to face three-time CCL champion Monterrey on both Wednesday and June 13. In between those encounters, the 2013/14 CCL semifinalist will square off against Liga Ascenso MX side Correcaminos on Friday.
"The level of the Mexican football is high and represents a valuable opportunity for us to test ourselves against powerful clubs that without a doubt will bring out the best in us,” said defender Porfirio Lopez.
After returning to Costa Rica, Alajuelense, will open Copa Popular play on July 16 against Guanacasteca.
The players brought to Mexico by head coach Oscar Ramirez are: Alfonso Quesada, Dexter Lewis, Elias Palma, Kenner Gutierrez, Porfirio Lopez, Jean Carlo Aguero, Ariel Soto, Jose Salvatierra, Kevin Sancho, Ronald Matarrita, Luis Miguel Valle, Ariel Rodriguez, Juan Gabriel Guzman, Osvaldo Rodriguez, Pablo Antonio Gabas, Johan Venegas, Armando Alonso, Allen Guevara, Álvaro Sanchez, Alejandro Aguilar, Francisco Rodriguez and Jose Guillermo Ortiz.
